[ THE MAZE RIO ]
Located in the heart of the community Tavares Bastos, The Maze was build in 1981 as a family home by British artist Bob Nadkarni, resembling a labyrinth in the middle of the favela. The venue is unique in its intriguing architecture and renowned for its stunning views over the Guanabara Bay and Sugar Loaf.
Over the years The Maze developed into a multi-faceted cultural center with Live Jazz events [cited 5 years running as World Top Jazz Venue by Downbeat Magazine], cutting edge Brazilian music shows, a permanent art exhibition, and architecture described as ‘Unique & Original’ by National Geographic. It’s also the only place you can get original Indian style curry in Rio.
[ OUR EVENTS ]
Since 2005 The Maze brings you every first Friday of the month the most traditional Jazz night in Rio de Janeiro. For 6 consecutive years we have been listed by DOWNBEAT magazine as one of the 150 best Jazz venues in the world together with names like Blue Note and Ronnie Scott's.
Patrick Fitzgerald (Rio's most loved Irishman) and Bob Nadkarni (Rio's most iconic Brit) invite you to share their St. Patrick's Night. We'll be drinking to the birth of The MAZE with our Special Retro Jazz Band who played back in 2006. And if you arrive BEFORE 10 pm you'll get a FREE CAIPIRINHA.
It's a pretty straightforward scheme: eat what you can, help yourself as many times as you like. There will be at least three curries, homemade Indian breads and multiple other accompaniments and side dishes from all around India - and abundant options for vegetarians and vegans too!

You can find us right on top of the favela Tavares Bastos. We are neighbours with the B.O.P.E. which makes our community probably the safest place in town.
